Intersection-collision caused by driver running a red light

|

Car accidents occur for various reasons; however, they are more likely to occur when a driver fails to uphold the person's duty to travel safely on the roadway. This happens when a driver is negligent, distracted or reckless. Whether a driver is speeding, texting while driving or is intoxicated, these actions could easily lead to a serious -- or even fatal -- collision resulting in injured victims and severe damages.

Authorities in Billings recently responded to an intersection collision involving two vehicles. According to preliminary reports, the crash happened at the intersection of Broadwater and 19th Street West around noon. Police believe that car accident occurred when one driver ran a red light. This resulted in the vehicles colliding and careening over a curb.

The force of the collision caused the vehicles to hit a bus bench and push it into the wall of a business located at the southwest corner of the intersection. Emergency crews responded to the incident. Both drivers were transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. While the vehicles punched a large hole into the local business, no injuries were reported to those inside the building.

The investigation of this accident is still ongoing and no citations have been issued at this time. While authorities believe a driver traveling through a red light caused the accident, no charges against that driver have been reported at this time. Once investigation is completed, cause and liability can be assigned.

When a victim is harmed in a car accident caused by the negligence of a driver, the person might be able to hold that driver responsible for the damages and injuries caused. A personal injury claim could help the injured victim recover compensation, helping the person cover expenses arising from the incident.
